Privacy
Straight talk about what this site does with your data.
This is a personal portfolio and blog. There are no accounts, no forms and no ads, and the site doesn't set any cookies of its own. Here's everything that happens when you visit.
Analytics
I use Umami Cloud, a privacy-focused analytics service, to see which pages get read. It records the page you visited, where you came from (the referrer), your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and an approximate country. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't store your IP address and doesn't follow you across other websites. It respects your browser's Do Not Track setting.
I don't use Google Analytics, advertising pixels or any other tracking.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, it receives your IP address and basic request details (page, browser, time) to serve the page, and keeps standard server logs.
Other sites your browser talks to
Some content is loaded straight from other companies' servers, which means they can see your IP address and browser details when a page loads:
- YouTube, for the videos embedded in some articles (I use YouTube's privacy-enhanced
youtube-nocookie.complayer). - Image hosts such as Medium, Webflow, Unsplash and Tenor (a GIF), for pictures in some older articles.
- SlideShare, for a slide deck embedded in one article.
Each of them has its own privacy policy, and I don't control what they do with that information.
Links out
Links to LinkedIn, GitHub, Medium, Bluesky, Spotify and YouTube just take you to those sites; nothing is shared with them by clicking. If you buy something from my Gumroad store, Gumroad handles your payment and details; I never see your card information. If you subscribe to my newsletter on beehiiv, the email address you give is stored there and visible to me so I can send you the newsletter, and you can unsubscribe from any email.
My old newsletter
Before this site moved, my blog ran on Ghost and had a mailing list. If you subscribed to it, I may still have the email address you gave me. If you'd like it deleted, email me and I'll do it.
Questions, or want something deleted?
Email me at ed@edorozco.com. Under privacy laws like the GDPR you can ask what data I hold about you and have it corrected or deleted.
